Breakfast in Bed Couple's Session

Good Morning! There isn't too much more in life that we need other than fresh bread from Art-Is-In Boulangerie, coffee in pretty mugs, and a nice man to snuggle up to in bed. What's nicer to wake up to than that? Oh right, waking up to see your work published on Style Me Pretty Living!

Do you remember back in February, photographer Laura Kelly and our very own stylist Brittany Frid got together to offer one lucky couple a Valentine's Day surprise styled couple's session? Well on October 10, 2014 our "Breakfast in Bed" couples session was featured on one of the biggest style blogs out there and we were very excited! Read below to see the full feature.

From Brittany Frid, the event planner...Laura Kelly and I have been talking about collaborating on a styled shoot together ever since we met. Valentine’s Day was around the corner and we were feeling the love – we decided to do a styled couples session for one lucky couple. We gathered all of our favourite vendors in the city and launched a social media campaign hunting for the “best date ever” story from all of the darling doe-eyed couples looking for a Valentine’s Day surprise gift for their hunnies.

Ottawa Wedding Planners

After over 4,000 shares, tweets, likes, tags and comments from couples all over the city, we finally found the perfect couple. Elizabeth and Craig are one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever met. Not only are they adorable together, but they are truly good people. Liz is passionate about rescuing animals; they have three rescue cats together and she is currently enrolling herself in veterinarian courses while she volunteers at the Ottawa Humane Society. Craig is equally as passionate about helping others – he works at the Ottawa Mission helping the homeless rehabilitate and find permanent housing.

When Laura and I started talking about the design for the shoot, we were going to let our creative muscles flex and use the shoot as an opportunity to have some fun with a glamourous theme. But after meeting Liz and Craig, inserting them into our glam theme didn’t seem right. This couple loves being close to one another, sharing the small moments together and being at home cuddling on the couch with their cats. So we changed everything and designed the shoot around Liz and Craig. We decided to do a “Breakfast in Bed” shoot for them in their own home.

From the couple – “Our perfect date would be a lazy Sunday morning – enjoying each others company, sharing our favourite memories and playing with our three kittens. So, when Brittany and Laura suggested a breakfast-in-bed styled theme, we jumped at the opportunity to spend a morning cuddling and eating croissants. After five years together there is still nothing we love more than to snuggle, hold hands and sneak kisses when ever we get a chance – and our amazing team of vendors created the perfect atmosphere for just that. From sipping coffee from our ‘Good Morning Beautiful’ and ‘Good Morning Handsome’ mugs to strumming guitar in bed – everything set the tone for a romantic morning at home”.

And by the way, if you are wondering what their winning “best date ever” was, it was as simple as this:

“Our best date was the simplest one. Walking around downtown without any destination. We browsed the local library and found books for each other, we got gelato and sat on a bench in the market talking about memories we’ve shared. There was something so wonderful about re-discovering the city we’ve lived in our whole lives, and doing it together.”

We've scavenged the world wide web to find you our top 5 bridal updos for the season. We think that the trend is to have loosely collected braids mixed in with pieces that sweet naturally away from the face. Say so long to perfect curls and tight buns please. Let's get loose! Elegant Cheekwood Nashville Wedding

This wedding, submitted to us by Jessica Lorren, has to be one of my favourite submissions of all time. It's one of those dreamy, romantic ones that instantly put you in a better mood for the rest of the day. The whole wedding, which took place at the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens in Nashville, Tennessee, has so much southern charm to it that all I wanted to do was eat peach pie with vanilla ice cream while I flipped from picture to picture. Beautiful.

The Ottawa Wedding Show

Wondering whether to make it down to The Ottawa Wedding Show this weekend? Well, we are here, reporting live on our favourite booths and vendors to check out! We made it today at 1pm, just a hair too late for the fashion shows, but we have lots of great pictures and had a blast. Here are some of our top moments from the Saturday show:

Ottawa Wedding Show

First of all, we were really impressed with all the paper design throughout the whole event. The website was our first glimpse of the fun graphic design, which also happened to feature lots of wonderful images from one of our fave photographers at the event: Laura Kelly! Her booth was right at the entrance of the show for all to behold.

That's Laura on the left (and Brittany on the right). We loved Laura's booth with her trademark contemporary chic style. Her signature sea foam green played a role everywhere from the gorgeous albums, signage and the backdrop (which had the sweetest wainscotting and hardwood floors so it felt like you were standing in her living room the whole time). Congratulations Laura on your fabulous booth and features in the Ottawa Sun and on the show's website!

Hopefully you'll be lucky enough to win the free engagement session she was offering!

Our next stop was to see some pretty fabulously attired gentlemen. Surmesur just opened up in August and we couldn't be more thrilled for the men in our lives. Peter Lloyd Greer and his team offer completely custom suits, tailored and designed specifically for you. They take into account your eye colour, complexion, haircut, everything... things men never seem to consider when buying a suit but women would never forget to check. The store, located on Slater and O'Connor is the third Surmesur location and we can't wait to work with them soon to outfit our grooms and basically any man we can find.

Just look at these handsome guys...

Here's Peter, looking very suave.

And Aaron... looking awfully handsome in his blue bespoke suit and trendy glasses. He gave us some line about having just woken up and was asked last minute to help out at the booth this morning. Sorry Aaron, we don't buy it.

Next up was a company that we've been hearing some buzz about online for a few weeks now. Alfred & Co. had one of the prettiest booths at the show. They are an online boutique carrying high-end consignment goods. We were seriously impressed with their style and taste.

Alfred & Co.

Quick shout out to Efhamar & Sienna who wasn't here today, but her work was featured in the Alfred & Co. booth. It's a company that we've been working with recently that carries these fantastic oversized letter balloons and a bunch of other amazing handmade decor for weddings and parties. Her site is great and the products are gorg!

Back to Alfred & Co. They even have consignment designer gowns. This Jenny Packham gown (that had Brittany absolutely swooning as Jenny is her favourite designer - although it kinda looks like she's drunk in this picture) was over 60% off.

We also passed the Bloomfields Flowers booth. Their floral studio is based in the Glebe and we can't avoid stopping there anytime we're in the area. We love their creative, organic and whimsical designs, and the their booth featured gorgeous autumn-inspired arrangements.

Oooh, and we can't forget The Handmade Bride! We always look forward to seeing their ultra-colourful and creative booths at the local wedding shows.

Stonefields is one of our favourite venues of all time. Located in Carleton Place, they have one of the prettiest properties around that features large stone buildings and farmhouses, lovely gardens and a massive tent that gives you a great outdoor experience with a little bit of luxury. Stephanie and Steve, the owners, are amazing people and we had some spectacular weddings with them this season. Stephanie's back there, you just can't see her. She explained that her booth this year was meant to mimic what you can see at Stonefields: the billowing white tent with the chandelier were a perfect touch!

We also went to see Groovy Linens and Creative Edge Studio's featured table section and we were quite impressed with the collections and available options they put together.

We were particularly impressed with how Creative Studio made this living moss table runner with birch tree accents. Great touch and compliment to the burlap linen!

We also thought that Dayna's Pet Sitting had a great idea. How many of you want to have your dog be your ring bearer but don't know what to do with Sparky after the ceremony? Dayna will be there on your wedding day to take care of him!

Dayna's Pet Sitting

Here's her own pup!

Here's Jessica Davey from Le Belvédère, the venue in Wakefield that we ADORE. Breathtaking views from the top of a cliff overlooking all of Wakefield... it is a sight to behold. You can find one of our most publicized styled shoots, that was held at Le Belvédère, by clicking here.

We also stopped by the beauty bar, where the girls got to get their eyebrows done, microdermabrasion, and hair styling.

Ottawa Wedding Show

At the back of the beauty bar was an actual bar, featuring Pinnacle Cotton Candy Cosmopolitans and our favourite, the Pinnacle Lemon Meringue Cocktail that had whipped cream flavoured vodka mixed with lemonade.

We also ran into Next, a restaurant in Stittsville that also acts as a venue that Catalina is very fond of (and Brittany plans to go to soon). Next actually holds a special place in Catalina's heart. Catalina met her husband, Darren, there five years ago. Now they are happily married and Darren owns The Cookery Bistro in Kanata.

The show also had a Gentlemen's Lounge with furniture from LouLou Lounge Furniture Rentals. Meant as a space for the guys to chill out while their ladies get to vendor shop.

LouLou Lounge

And here's Brittany sneaking into the Gentlemen's Lounge... That's her conniving face.

And that's a wrap! It was great to see all our industry friends there. There were a few more friends that we didn't get pictures with but wanted to mention anyway: Scott, Brian and Nicole from Quality Entertainment, Aquatopia Water Garden Conservatory, and RedNails, a mobile salon that offers hair, makeup and manicures out of their very trendy bus. We really loved everyone's booths and were sorry we didn't have more time to feature everyone!

Hope you all have a chance to get to the show tomorrow if you missed it today, and for those who got to go, tell us how you liked it!

An Autumn-Inspired Invitation Suite

Oh Autumn. I don't know a girl in the world that doesn't love this season. This is the time that our obsessions for pumpkin-spiced anything, over-sized scarves and riding boots gets to shine. Ottawa is lovely in the fall. The air is crisp and fashion starts to get a little more interesting. It's also wonderful to see a change in wedding decor.

The autumnal colour palette in weddings can sometimes be a little too... kitschy. Over-powering mustard yellows, burnt oranges and brown are obvious choices for a fall-inspired wedding, but we prefer to strip it back, like this Autumn-inspired invitation suite. The use of the light, grainy wood, leaves, pear (a much better option than brown and mustard  yellow, FYI) and simple off-white stationary and slate grey calligraphy makes for a stunning picture and an organic, natural take on a fall-inspired design.
